A forehead lift is aimed at raising the eyebrows and reducing deep wrinkles and creases in the forehead. This is done by keyhole technique (endoscopic technique) on younger patients or through skin reduction on any creases in the forehead in the elderly. In order to achieve optimal results an upper eyelid surgery can also be needed. The goal of the forehead lift is to open up the eyes therefore making you look less tired and that the forehead feels more relaxed and refreshed. Bring sunglasses, low-necked T-shirt and cap to the operation. The forehead lift is done under general anesthesia and takes about 1.5 hours. After the operation you will remain in the nursing ward until the next morning. After the surgery, you are taped on the forehead over the operated area for 5 days. The scars are behind the hairline in the middle and slightly to the sides of the temple. Every scar is about 1.5 cm long. The stitches are removed after approximately 10 days. The pain after this operation is moderate, but it is important that you only take the painkillers you have been recommended such as Alvedon, Panodil, Citodon or Dexofen. Pills containing aspirin or herbal remedies, Vitamin E, Omega 3 or fish oil increase the risk of haemorrhage leading to bruising and swelling after surgery. These drugs must be avoided one week before and after surgery. In order to reduce the swelling in the forehead. You get a short cortisone treatment in the 3 days after the operation.
The forehead and upper eyelids may swell and bruising may occur. These usually disappears within 3 weeks. The most common complications are swelling and bruising. The forehead may feel numb for a few weeks. The face nerve ramification on the forehead can be damaged during surgery (<1%), which means that the eyebrow at the damaged side can not be lifted at will but this happens very rarely. You can start working again after 1-2 weeks depending on the type of job you have. Physical activity can be resumed after 5 weeks.
As life goes by the elasticity of the skin changes and such is also the case for the face. Elasticity in the skin decreases and wrinkles appear. It is typical to see looser skin on the neck and a pair of muscular bands extending from below the chin and down, deep creases in the mouth corners and “jowls” – all alone or in combination . This seems to give a tired look. If you exhibit these signs you might be a candidate for a facelift.
The procedure, which usually takes place under general anesthesia (you are asleep) , implies that the skin is stretched upwards and backwards and the excess is removed. The operation takes a few hours to perform. The sections are laid from the temple down around the ear and behind it into the hairline. It usually includes a stay overnight after the operation. No real pain is common, a certain tightness can be experienced for a couple of weeks. The stitches are removed in stages over a two week period.
The V-Soft Lift is a new treatment where absorbable SUB-fibers* are inserted under the skin in a special pattern and in this way helping to lift “jawls ” in the cheeks, lifting the eyebrows and smoothing out wrinkles in the neck. In many cases it can replace facelift.
Facial contouring: Chin, Cheek and Jaw line
Cheek augmentation or its contouring can be done either with a fat injection or more often by injection of dermal volume fillers like Stylage XL or Juvederm Voluma. When a fat filler is used it is common that fat from the knee area is used and one is usually sedated during the procedure but can go home later the same day. Local anesthesia is given when injecting dermal fillers and you can go home immediately afterwards. Chin surgery is made either to enlarge or reduce the chin. In a chin augmentation an implant in the chin is added either by incision under the chin or through the mouth with Astoria Clinic’s unique method, which does not give any visible scars.
The implant is a solid silicone implant, which is integrated to the shape of the chin. It has been used for decades without long-term complications. A transitory numbness in the chin can, however, occasionally arise in connection with the insertion. The volume filler Stylage XL can also be used in chin augmentation. This is done under local anesthesia and you can go home the same day. In chin reduction the chin bone is chiseled down and in some cases the soft parts of the chin are also reduced.
